For First Year Law Students: Apply for a 1L Scholars Position
Law students who are selected to participate in LCLD’s 1L Scholar program will gain invaluable insights and experience as they learn alongside attorneys from LCLD Member organizations.
Since launching in 2011, 1L Scholars has put thousands of young attorneys on a path to leadership through law school and beyond. Participation in the program:
- Exposes Scholars to client business early in their careers
- Prepares Scholars for the culture of both law firms and corporate legal departments
- Gives law students from diverse backgrounds a unique summer experience and a supportive peer network
How to Apply for 1L Scholars Summer Positions.
We welcome first-year law students from underrepresented backgrounds to apply for this opportunity to spend a summer working with successful attorneys from LCLD Member organizations.
Note that to be eligible as a 1L Scholar, you must be enrolled as a first-year law student and in good standing at an ABA-approved school.

Each Member organization will independently identify, select, and hire its 1L Scholar(s).

If you are selected as a 1L Scholar, LCLD will reach out to you with information on how to register yourself for the forthcoming Virtual Experience.
If selected, prepare to spend your summer with that LCLD Member organization working side-by-side with top attorneys, learning new skills, and building networks!
