Personal Commitment
- Advocacy:
- Publicly advocate for actions that lawfully enhance diversity, equity and inclusion (“DEI”) across the legal profession.
- Use my leadership position to expand and deepen strategic partnerships across the private bar that promote DEI in the profession and in society.
- Continually articulate our firm’s DEI strategy and goals to our partners and clients.
- Reinforce firm-wide efforts to encourage pro bono service and community involvement.
- Talent Development:
- Encourage the review of partnership candidates from a variety of backgrounds.
- Awareness Building and Education:
- Continue to host regular Town Halls and dialogues and encourage transparent conversations across the firm about our different lived experiences.
- Continue to frequently consult and collaborate with all of our associates and partners firm-wide.
- Pay particular attention to and build awareness regarding the experiences of our first-generation colleagues.
Organizational Commitment
- Pipeline Efforts:
- Continue our partnerships with non-profit organizations focused on expanding the talent pool.
- Broaden our relationships at a variety of colleges and universities to continue to hire top talent with varied backgrounds and lived experiences.
- Continue our partnership with Harvard Law School’s Future Leaders in Law Fellowship for high-achieving students of less advantaged socioeconomic backgrounds who are interested in law school and pursuing careers at the highest levels of the legal profession.
- Talent Development:
- Continue to evolve our processes, policies and procedures to advance the overall associate experience.
- Continue to measure and evaluate inclusive behavioral competencies through performance evaluations of all lawyers, including partners.
- Continue to count time spent mentoring and being mentored as legal non-billable hours.
- Track the extent to which associates, particularly junior associates, use job shadowing opportunities for learning and training purposes.
- Awareness Building and Education:
- Continue to provide opportunities to engage in transparent dialogue across the firm through our Diversity Speaker Series, our DEI curriculum and related workshops.
- Continue to work with our affinity networks and our Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and Professional Development & Training departments to provide DEI learning opportunities for all, e.g., guest speakers, career chats, workshops.
- Business and Client Development:
- Partner with clients to increase leadership opportunities and participation of a wide range of attorneys on their matters.
- Ensure that business development efforts best address client needs by pitching attorneys with a variety of talents and perspectives.
- Leverage the professional relationships of our affinity networks for business development purposes.
