Personal Commitment

  • I will personally serve in professional organizations whose goals are to promote diversity in the profession.
  • I will support the Legal Department Diversity Action Team (DAT) in designing initiatives that support the recruitment, retention, and mobility of underrepresented talent.
  • I will continue to facilitate the ongoing pursuit of Diversity Lab’s Mansfield Certification for my legal department.
  • I will sponsor a continuing legal education (CLE) conference, in partnership with outside law firms, to foster education and awareness on diversity, equity, and inclusion, and to highlight underrepresented talent both within the Legal Department and at outside law firms.

Organizational Commitment

  • I will ensure that key stakeholders in the Lincoln organization are aware of the time and talent within the Legal Department dedicated to our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • I will ensure the recruitment, retention and development of legal department underrepresented talent is tracked and shared with leadership quarterly.
  • I will require a balanced slate of candidates for officer-level open positions, and strongly encourage a balanced interviewer team (when possible) to assess those candidates.
  • My people leaders will be held accountable, as part of the performance evaluation process, for their commitment to recruiting and retaining diverse talent.
  • I will support the Legal Department’s affiliation with external organizations such as the Leadership Council on Leadership Diversity (LCLD), the Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA), and the Council on Legal Education Opportunity (CLEO) to foster diversity in the profession.
