As part of Thompson Hine’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and our responsibility to create and promote initiatives to diversify the legal profession, we offer an annual Fellowship Program for first-year law students regardless of race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity / gender expression, disability status, or any identity.
This opportunity is available in our Ohio offices: Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, and Dayton. This is a unique opportunity for students to gain valuable experience and receive mentoring and training early in their legal career. Students selected for this Diversity and Inclusion Fellowship opportunity will receive a paid summer associate position for the duration of our ten-week, 2025 summer program and an award of up to $10,000, minus taxes and withholdings.
Eligibility
To be eligible for this opportunity, applicants must be first-year law students attending an ABA-accredited law school and must be authorized to work in the United States. Applicants must be committed to practicing law in Ohio upon graduation and not receive a similar award from another law firm for the same period. To receive the award, applicants must demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in the legal profession and receive and accept a second-year summer associate position with Thompson Hine.

Complete an online application for the 1L Diversity Fellowship position and attach a cover letter, resume, transcript (when available) and a statement of interest of no more than 750 words.

- Your statement of interest should include:
- Your engagement and support of diversity, equity and inclusion efforts;
- How your identity, background and experiences could enhance Thompson Hine and further its diversity, equity and inclusion efforts;
- How the scholarship will impact your legal education and career, and
- Highlights from your academic achievement and any extracurricular law school or community activities.
